Debtors Controller [South Africa]


 

The institute has a job opening for a Debtors Controller. This is a critical function within our Finance department and oversees records of customers’ accounts. The duties include but are not limited to, keep record on the amounts owed by customers and amounts paid and carrying out routine bookkeeping duties including calculating interest on overdue accounts.

Position Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible to allocate customer receipts to customer’s accounts daily for allocated accounts.
  • Monitoring of daily customer receipts suspense accounts and allocating and tracing unknown receipts to specific customers.
  • Responsible to monitor debtors aging which includes obtaining age analysis reports and identifying overdue accounts.
  • Drafting and sending letters of demand to customers and sales in line with company procedures.
  • Work closely with management to continuously improve DSOs (Days Sales Outstanding).
  • Daily/weekly interaction with sales teams to support volume growth and resolve customer queries.

  • Ensure that the team provides monthly forecasts and communication of the forecast to the relevant stakeholders.
  • Responsible for providing feedback on overdue accounts on a weekly basis, who will collate age analysis and further comments.
  • Completing and issuing of Invoices and statements in line with clients’ contracts.
  • Capturing of sales and maintenance of cashbook.
  • Assisting with client queries, providing succinct answers and summaries.
  • Responsible to assist the company's annual audit on Debtors.
  • Responsible to check the teams’ journals before it can be processed.
  • Ensure that SLAs are always adhered to as agreed to.
  • Responsible for compiling and uploading of reports.
  • Process bookkeeping functions on a day-to-day basis: Import of bank transactions into accounting platform and the allocation of payments and receipts with correct accounting treatment.
  • Bank balance reconciliation between accounting software and bank.
  • Handling transfers and cancellations, processing of credit notes for refunds / cancellations / transfers and other.
  • Invoice students for remarking of assessments, rewriting of assessments and national examinations
  • Credit approval by conducting affordability assessments.
  • Complete month end journals.
  • Complete ad-hoc assignments from time to time.
  • Adhere to financial policy and procedures

Application Requirements:

  • Grade 12 with full Mathematics.
  • Diploma/Degree in Accounting or equivalent financial qualification will be an advantage.
  • 3 years’ experience in a similar role with similar level of responsibilities.
  • Above average ability to understand, use and learn new technology.
  • Excellent understanding and knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Advanced computer and office programs literacy, especially using Microsoft Excel at an advanced level.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: R192,000.00 - R228,000.00 per year
